This Nobodaddy takes a look at Asia, the United States and Europe. A journey through which one discovers the remnants of the patriarchal order on which an iron order is erected.
According to Félix Rueda, “reality” is reconfigured, as it is now based on the “taking into account of distributive injustice that is at play in every difference”. This discursive dimension thus creates a zone of uncertainty between censorship and freedom of expression of which wokism is a symptomatic manifestation.
In Pakistan, Armelle Guivarch, through the film Joyland, shows us the dark grimace of a patriarchal society confronted to modernity, where trans women are exhibited and reduced to being discarded objects that awaken desire, where married men find themselves at a crossroads, while wives are plunged into deadly ravage.
A little further East, in China, Roberto Cavasola outlines the contours of a country where family traditions and communism are intertwined with capitalist discourse. Women’s emancipation has its downside, as their professional lives are often reduced to commercial seduction. If they are still unmarried past their thirties, they are labelled as “left over”. As for the mother wife, she will hold the power to determine the fate of her offspring.
In the brilliant television series co-directed by Tim Burton, Wednesday, Omar Battisti gives us a glimpse of how the spectre of lawlessness spreads throughout the Nevermore Academy. Wednesday Addams, banished from her old high school for an act of rebellion (or an acting out), finds herself there. Excluded from the realm of normalcy like her classmates, all of whom are held captive by maternal will, Wednesday finds a way to break it. As a matter of fact, under the contempt lies buried love: the order of reality is thus caulked, as a particularised mode of existence is transmitted.
The era of hunting down speech to catch malicious intent has become widespread, and the discourse of love suffers. But courageous, according to Véronique Pannetier, it has not said its last word, as it is intrinsically linked to the body while making room for an undecipherable Other and with whom the audacity of invention is always possible.
Wishing you a wonderful flight!
